Salt Cell Installation and Autofill Valve Adjustment

Reason for the Visit

On August 1, 2024, GL Pools visited a customer’s residential property in Escondido, California, to install a new salt cell for her saltwater pool. In addition to the salt cell installation, the client had concerns about her pool’s autofill system. The autofill seemed to be running constantly, even when the fill line was open, indicating a potential issue with the valve or a possible leak.

What We Found

During our inspection, we confirmed that the Jandy PLC1400 salt cell needed replacement, which was the primary reason for our visit. As for the autofill concern, we observed that the valve was triggering the system to continuously refill the pool, suggesting that it was not properly set. However, we found no signs of leaks in the pool equipment that would explain excessive water loss.

Solution Steps Taken

Salt Cell Replacement

To address both the installation and the autofill issue, we took the following three steps:

• Installed a New Salt Cell (Jandy PLC1400): We replaced the old salt cell with a new Jandy PLC1400 model, wiring the unit to ensure proper functionality. The new salt cell will help maintain the pool’s saltwater system, keeping water quality at its best.
• Adjusted the Float Valve: To resolve the autofill issue, we made a slight adjustment to the float valve. By lowering it just a fraction, we stopped the slow drip that was causing the system to run constantly. After the adjustment, the valve worked correctly, only calling for water when the level dropped.
• No Further Leaks Detected: A thorough inspection of the pool equipment showed no signs of additional leaks, confirming that the autofill issue was solely due to the valve setting.

Summary of Service

GL Pools successfully installed a new Jandy PLC1400 salt cell and adjusted the autofill float valve. The autofill system now operates as expected, with no excessive water loss or continuous filling. We also confirmed there were no leaks in the pool’s equipment.

Overall Recommendations

The salt cell and autofill system are now fully operational. We recommend continued monitoring of the system to make sure everything functions smoothly, but no immediate action is necessary.
