Acid Washing FAQs

While we’ve covered the basics of pool acid washing– you likely still have a few questions. So, let’s review some common inquiries regarding pool acid washing.

Why is acid washing necessary?

While pool acid washing is purely cosmetic, it is necessary for anyone with scaling issues. Scaling or calcium buildup can spread across your pool’s floor and sides, causing unsightly white or white-grey stains due to imbalances or saltwater exposure. Calcium scales can be difficult to remove otherwise and acid washing can further serve to prevent its reforming.

What are some signs or symptoms I should acid wash my pool?

Beginning with non-apparent signs; testing your pool’s chemistry for the calcium levels is a great way to diagnose scaling before it gets worse. The ideal level should be between 200 and 400 PPM. Anything higher is likely to cause scaling.

Are there consequences if I choose not to acid wash?

While pool acid washing is not entirely necessary per say, opting out will cause the spots affected by calcium to get rougher and ultimately worsen over time.

How does acid washing help?

The acid in the acid wash process breaks down the calcium deposits or stains to reveal the plaster underneath. And with our team working for you, we’ll spray, scrub, rinse, and repeat until your pool is sparkling.

How can acid washing hurt my pool’s integrity if done improperly?

If your acid wash is performed too aggressively, your plaster could be destroyed. And should you choose to take this task on yourself without prior experience, you run the risk of damaging your lungs or property with corrosive and toxic acid. Instead, let our professionals handle this sensitive task.
