Reason for the Visit

On August 6, GL Pools was called out to a commercial client’s pool in El Cajon, California, to address issues with the pool’s mastic. The mastic, a crucial expansion joint material around the pool deck, had aged significantly and needed pool mastic replacement in El Cajon. The deterioration of the mastic was unsightly and posed potential structural risks by allowing water to seep into the joints, potentially causing damage to the pool deck and surrounding areas.

What We Found

During the inspection, it was evident that the existing mastic had degraded over time. The wear and tear were typical for mastic of this age, especially in commercial properties that experience higher foot traffic and water exposure. The old mastic was cracking and pulling away from the pool deck, which could lead to further damage if not addressed promptly. This called for immediate pool mastic repair to avoid further structural issues.

Solution Steps Taken

To restore the integrity of the pool deck and prevent future issues, we replaced the old mastic with a high-quality, durable material. After considering the aesthetic and functional needs of the property, we installed approximately 100 feet of tan Sika mastic (competitor to the popular mastic product DECK-O-SEAL). This material was selected for its superior durability, flexibility, and its ability to match the surrounding pool area seamlessly.

The tan color was chosen to blend with the existing surroundings, maintaining the pool area’s visual appeal while ensuring a watertight seal, essential for long-term mastic maintenance.

GL Pools successfully completed the pool mastic replacement in El Cajon, replacing approximately 100 feet of deteriorated mastic around the pool at Park West Apartments.
