Electrical Wiring Repair and Circulation Pump Restoration in Lakeside

Reason for the Visit 

On Oct. 14, 2024, GL Pools visited a client’s saltwater pool in Lakeside, California, to resolve issues causing her pool to remain stagnant and green. Our client had recently hired GL Pools to address the lack of circulation and extensive algae growth. 

Our team’s initial onboarding and cleaning visit on Oct. 8 revealed that the circulation pump was unresponsive. A preliminary inspection indicated that the pump wasn’t receiving power, which led to further diagnostic service on Oct. 14 to identify the cause. 

What We Found 

Upon deeper investigation, our repair technician, Gage Belchamber, discovered an unusual problem: The electrical conduit leading to the pump was empty, missing critical high voltage wiring entirely. This vacant conduit indicated tampering, potential theft, or an incomplete prior installation—an extremely rare scenario in our field. 

Further inspection uncovered an additional complication: a severed low-voltage communication wire. This break prevented the control system from sending necessary commands to the pump, disabling the pump’s speed and scheduling functions. 

Solution Steps Taken 

To restore power and functionality to the pool system, our team implemented the following solutions: 

1. Replaced High-Voltage Wiring: We installed new high-voltage wiring within the conduit to assess the pump’s operation and determine if it would function once power was restored. 

1. Repaired Communication Wiring: During the follow-up visit, we addressed the severed low-voltage communication wire, reconnecting it to allow proper control signals to reach the pump. This restored the pump’s ability to operate at scheduled speeds, essential for continuous and efficient pool circulation. 

1. Restored Circulation and Resolved Water Quality: With the wiring repaired, the circulation pump began functioning, allowing our team to fully treat the algae and restore water clarity to Patricia’s pool.
