Black Algae Removal and Consultation – September 2024

Reason for the Visit

On Sept. 10, 2024, GL Pools was called out for a consultation at potential client’s residential property in San Diego, California. After noticing GL Pools service vehicles in his neighborhood, the client requested a review of his pool’s current condition. Our account manager, Ryan Abramson, promptly scheduled a visit to assess the pool and address any concerns.

What We Found

During the inspection, a significant black algae infestation was identified in his chlorine pool. These algae, known for being persistent and difficult to eradicate, posed both a cosmetic problem and a safety concern for the client’s family. Left unchecked, black algae can deeply root into pool surfaces, becoming harder to remove and creating an environment for bacteria growth. Addressing this issue quickly was essential to restoring the pool’s safety and aesthetic appeal.

Black Algae in Swimming Pool

Solution Steps Taken

To fix the black algae problem, we recommended a comprehensive plan targeting the algae at its source:

  • Regular Pool Service: We quoted the client for a consistent pool maintenance program. Routine care is critical in preventing the return of black algae and maintaining the overall health of the pool.
  • Acid or Chlorine Wash: For immediate algae removal, we proposed either an acid wash or a chlorine wash, both of which are effective methods for eliminating stubborn algae. An acid wash would strip away a thin layer of the pool’s surface to kill the deeply rooted algae, while a chlorine wash offers a high-concentration treatment to neutralize algae growth without damaging the pool’s material.

Summary of Service

GL Pools provided the client with a complimentary consultation and presented solutions for addressing the black algae issue. We delivered quotes for both regular pool service and a one-time acid or chlorine wash to resolve the algae concerns.

Overall Recommendations

Given the severity of the black algae problem, we recommended an immediate acid or chlorine wash to effectively eliminate the algae. Following this, regular professional maintenance is essential to prevent future outbreaks and ensure the pool remains safe and inviting for the family.
